The H-G Process

The Henry-Griffitts Process

Since 1983, Henry-Griffitts has set the standard in custom club fitting. Our H-G Integrated Club System (ICS) measures the specs that decide where your ball goes. Then we build every club by hand to your numbers and back it with our 100-Day Fit Guarantee.

Why custom fitting?

Off-the-shelf clubs are built for the average golfer. Your swing isn’t average.

Standard clubs are built to a spec sheet for a golfer who doesn’t exist. A proper fitting finds how length, lie, loft, face angle, shaft and grip work with the way you actually swing, so good contact becomes something you repeat instead of something you chase.

  1. Fit

Your H-G fitter tests each spec with you, and the ball flight makes the call. Nothing is left at a factory default.

  2. Build

Your clubs are built by hand to your numbers, through eight stations, with SST PURE on every shaft.

Fitting

We Show You, We Don’t Tell You

A lot of “fitted” clubs are really a sales pitch. An H-G fitting is a test: you hit the options, you see the ball flight change, and the numbers decide. These are the specs we fit, and every one of them is built into your clubs.

The Head

The head that suits your swing, set to meet the ball square.

Head Design

Head design is the spec most of the golf industry ignores. Offset and non-offset heads produce completely different ball flights, and the only way to know which suits you is to hit both, on the right shaft, at the right length and at the right lie angle. That side-by-side test is built into every H-G fitting, and you'll only find it at Henry-Griffitts.

Loft

Loft sets how high your ball launches and how much it spins. Too little of it makes you help the ball into the air, and that costs you consistency. Your H-G fitter fits the loft your ball flight needs, not a number that looks good stamped on the club, checks that each club flies its own distance, and we bend your irons to it.

Lie Angle

Lie angle decides whether the sole meets the ground level at impact. Too upright and the toe rides up, pointing the face left; too flat and the heel rides up, pointing it right (for a right-handed golfer). A 7-iron that's just 2° off sends the ball about 3½ yards off line at 160 yards. We pioneered dynamic lie fitting, and our heads bend from 6° upright to 7° flat to match your number.

Face Angle

Face angle, in drivers, fairway woods and hybrids, has a large influence on direction and trajectory. Most off-the-rack woods come set closed, and that isn't what everyone needs. We fit closed, square and open faces, find the setting that starts your ball on line, and build your club locked at that setting, so it's never a variable you're left to guess at.

The Shaft

The engine of the club, matched to your speed and tempo.

Length

Longer isn't better. Neither is shorter. The right length for your build and your swing puts you in balance at address and encourages squareness of hit: solid contact in the sweet spot, swing after swing. Your H-G fitter finds the length that lets you repeat your best contact, and we build your set to it.

Shaft Type

Steel or graphite is a fitting decision, not a habit. H-G's own filament-wound graphite is lighter and easier on your hands; KBS Tour steel brings weight and control to a strong, fast swing, and KBS Tour Lite gives steel an easier launch. Plenty of strong players choose graphite now, so we never assume. You hit both, and your ball flight decides.

Shaft Flex

Off the rack, a flex letter doesn't mean much: one maker's stiff is another's senior flex. We fit flex by how a shaft performs in your swing, not by the label, from the largest range of flexes in golf. Each H-G flex has its own color, from white (X-Stiff) to red (Extra-Weak), so you can compare them side by side.

Shaft Weight

You've heard that lighter is better for years. That's another marketing myth. Lighter is better for some golfers and heavier is better for others; the right weight suits your strength and tempo and helps you repeat your swing. H-G shafts run from 45-gram graphite to 130-gram steel. You hit them side by side, and you choose.

Kick Point

Kick point is where a shaft bends most, and it moves your launch. A low kick point flexes nearer the tip, adding loft at impact and helping the ball up; a high kick point holds firmer through the tip for a more penetrating, controlled flight. Your fitter matches kick point to your speed and the flight you want, and proves it with the ball in the air.

The Grip & Balance

How the club sits in your hands and feels through your swing.

Grips in the Henry-Griffitts shop, sorted by model and size

Grip Size

Your grip is the only part of the club you touch. Too small and your hands get too active, which tends to send shots left; too large and it holds back your release, which tends to push them right (for a right-handed golfer). Your fitter measures your hand and has you hit the sizes, and we build your grips to the one that lets your hands release naturally.

Swingweight

Swingweight is how heavy a club feels as you swing it, which isn't the same as what it weighs. Too light and it's easy to rush; too heavy and you tire and slow down. We build every club in your set to the same fitted swingweight, so each one feels the same in your hands and you can make the same swing with all of them.

SST PURE'd

Every shaft aligned to its most stable plane

No golf shaft is perfectly round, straight or uniform in stiffness. Even premium shafts carry small manufacturing variations that make them bend and twist slightly off line during the swing, and how a shaft sits in the head decides how much of that shows up in your shots.

SST PURE analyzes every shaft to find its most stable plane, and we install it in the head along that plane. At Henry-Griffitts it isn't an upgrade or an add-on. It's part of every club we build.

  • More consistency: tighter shot patterns and less dispersion
  • Better accuracy: every club performs the way it was fitted
  • Graded for symmetry: every shaft is graded A to C as it's aligned
  • Proven on tour: the same alignment process trusted by tour professionals

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about custom fitting, ordering, and getting the most out of your Henry-Griffitts clubs.

Once your fitting is complete, our expert club builders typically craft and ship your custom clubs within just 5 days. We pride ourselves on fast turnaround without sacrificing quality or precision.

We fit dynamically — measuring how you actually deliver the club through your swing, not just your height and wrist-to-floor. Every variable is matched to you: length, lie angle, loft, shaft weight and flex, face angle, and grip. And you see the results in real time as the ball flight changes. We call it "We Show You, We Don't Tell You."

No — the opposite. Newer golfers often benefit the most, because clubs that don't fit force compensations that become bad habits. Equipment built around your swing makes solid contact easier to find and easier to repeat, whatever your handicap.

Use our Locate a Fitter page to find a certified H-G Teacher/Fitter in your area. Our fitters are trained in the H-G Integrated Club System and will take you through a complete dynamic fitting.

SST PURE is a shaft-alignment technology that finds each shaft's most stable orientation and installs it in exactly that position, for tighter, more consistent shot patterns. It's trusted by tour professionals — and at Henry-Griffitts it's standard on every club we build, not an upgrade.

Yes. We offer loft and lie adjustments, regripping, shaft repair and replacement, custom grinding, and more. Visit our shop's services section or contact us and we'll point you in the right direction.
